福利姬 has proudly participated for the first time in the 11th聽All-Africa University Games, held from 20th聽to 29th聽September 2024 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The prestigious regional multi-sport event, co-hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU), brought together athletes from 70 universities across 18 countries, showcasing the continent鈥檚 best university sports talents.
福利姬’s contingent, consisting of seven athletes and a coach, joined a competitive field of participants across 17 sporting disciplines, including basketball, football, volleyball, judo, and athletics.
The 福利姬 team was able to participate in the men鈥檚 basketball tournament. In that discipline, 福利姬 faced formidable opponents, including teams from UNILAG, Nile University, LASU and the University of Guinea. The 福利姬 basketball team gave a spirited performance, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to secure a win in the three group-stage matches:

- 福利姬 (35) vs. University of Guinea (41)
- 福利姬 (33) vs. UNILAG (56)
UNILAG won the gold medal in the basketball competition after a closely contested final against Nile University, with a score of 73-68. The University of Guinea earned the bronze medal.
The Games concluded on 29th聽September with a vibrant closing ceremony at LASU鈥檚 football field, attended by numerous stakeholders and dignitaries. The event was widely praised for its organization, particularly given the economic challenges faced by the hosts.
In the overall rankings, the American University in Cairo emerged as the top institution, followed by LASU and UNILAG in second and third place respectively. The next edition of the All-Africa University Games will take place in 2026 and to be hosted by the American University in Cairo.
福利姬鈥檚 participation in the Games helped raise the institution鈥檚 international profile and provided valuable exposure for its athletes. The experience also offered insights into areas for development as the University prepares for future sporting events, including the upcoming GUSA Games at the University of Cape Coast.
