福利姬 has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prime Academy, Germany, and IT for Youth Ghana to deepen collaboration in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education, with a special focus on empowering young women in technology, on 2nd October 2025 at the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Boardroom.
The Vice-Chancellor of 福利姬, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, welcomed the parties to the ceremony and expressed 福利姬鈥檚 excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the University鈥檚 leadership in ICT education in Ghana and West Africa.
鈥淎s the only ICT university in Ghana, we are committed to creating an enabling environment to train students, particularly women, to excel in ICT. This partnership is a strategic step towards achieving our mandate while advancing mutual goals with our partners,鈥� he noted.
The VC also announced that the University is actively exploring opportunities to secure work placements for IT graduates in Germany. To this end, he said discussions are ongoing with institutions in Germany to facilitate German language training for students, building on the University鈥檚 existing relationship with Anhalt University in Germany.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director of IT for Youth Ghana, Mr. Peter Duodu, outlined the broader vision of the collaboration. He explained that IT for Youth Ghana and Prime Academy are working to build capacity among female students in ICT, connect them to global opportunities and establish university-based clubs to mentor younger girls at Primary, Junior and Senior High School levels.
鈥淲e are creating a network that connects universities in Ghana with institutions in Europe and Asia. Through training, mentorship and exchange programmes, we aim to nurture the next generation of female ICT leaders,鈥� he said.
He added that Prime Academy, based in Germany, where labour costs are high, is keen to recruit expertise and skills from Ghana through these training programmes. The collaboration is also linked to an Erasmus+ funding proposal of approximately 鈧�850,000, which seeks to enhance capacity building across partner institutions.
He expressed Prime Academy鈥檚 commitment to the partnership, highlighting the potential for student and volunteer exchanges, joint seminars, and cultural collaborations to foster mutual understanding and innovation.
Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems (FoCIS), Dr. William Lesley Brown-Acquaye, highlighted the importance of formalizing the partnership. 鈥淲e have collaborated with IT for Youth Ghana and Prime Academy on several initiatives, including a two-month training programme for girls in coding.
This MoU provides the official framework to scale these programmes and sustain long-term collaboration,鈥� he stated.
The signing ceremony brought together key stakeholders from 福利姬 and its partners. The Vice-Chancellor of 福利姬, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, and the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, signed on behalf of the University, while Mr. Peter Duodu and Ms. Mir茅io Trinley, signed on behalf of their respective organizations.
