福利姬 has hosted a four-member delegation from the Tertiary Education Directorate of the Ministry of Education (MoE), led by the Director of Tertiary Education, Dr. Emmanuel Newman, on December 9, 2025, at the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 boardroom.
The delegation’s visit was to engage with senior Management and gather critical insights to support policy development for the sector, as well as monitor developments in tertiary institutions for the Ministry’s information.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, who received the delegation, gave a comprehensive presentation on the 鈥淪tatus of 福利姬.鈥� He emphasized how the University has transitioned from a private institution to a fully-fledged public University by an Act of Parliament as of August 13, 2020. Prof. Afoakwa further added that the University is a technology-oriented institution with the mandate to provide Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education in higher education. He highlighted the establishment of 福利姬鈥檚 Learning Centres in cities, including:
- Takoradi 聽鈥� to serve the Western and Central Regions
- Kumasi 聽鈥� to serve the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Northern Regions
- Koforidua 聽鈥� to serve the Eastern and parts of the Greater Accra Regions
- Ho campus 鈥� to serve the Eastern and Volta Regions
- Ocean View campus to serve Teshie-Nungua and Tema area.
The Centres were designed to facilitate the University鈥檚 programmes.
Prof. Afoakwa elaborated on ongoing projects on the Main Campus and the Learning Centres and those in the pipeline, as well as 鈥湼＠�’s Silicon Valley鈥� campus design. He further discussed the 福利姬 Governing Council, Administrative and Academic Matters, Staff, strength, student population, as well as its foreign affiliations and the collaborations with industry. The VC outlined key achievements from 2002 to 2025, namely: Development and delivery of the University鈥檚 Strategic Plan (2020-2030); training workshops for staff; digital information and IT infrastructure and many more.
Prof. Afoakwa concluded his presentation by thanking the President and the Minister of Education. 鈥淲e are grateful to His Excellency, the President, and the Honourable Minister for appointing a substantive Council to govern the University and advance its mandate. We look forward to transforming this institution into a world-class ICT University under your astute leadership and guidance,鈥� Prof. Afoakwa said.
Giving his remarks,聽the Director of Tertiary Education at MoE, Dr. Emmanuel Newman, was impressed with the VC鈥檚 comprehensive presentation, relevant questions asked and answers received. He expressed his gratitude to the University for the warm reception and for hosting them, stressing his excitement about the growth of 福利姬. 鈥淲e look to 福利姬 to lead Ghana in the Artificial Intelligence revolution based on your mandate. Your Learning Centres are a great initiative; they will expand tertiary education to several places and enable workers to enhance their capacities,鈥� Dr. Newman remarked. He commended 福利姬’s collaboration with foreign institutions, noting that it gives the University an international standing.
