The Ghana Communications Technology Uni颅versity (福利姬) at the weekend held its 31st Congrega颅tion with a total of 1,147 students awarded degrees and diplomas in their various fields of study.
The number included seven PhDs, 103 masters and 1,037 undergraduates and affiliate uni颅versities who have among the list a total of 668 graduands comprising 110 postgraduate students and 558 undergraduate students.
The Managing Director of the Electricity Company Ghana Limited (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, in his keynote address urged the graduands to use the knowledge acquired to support government鈥檚 digitisation agenda.
He said the rigorous digitisation process embarked upon by the government needs people of their caliber to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to create employment towards transforming the lives of the citi颅zenry instead of looking up to the government to employ them.
Mr Mahama indicated that the power of data could turn around whatever they wanted to do within a twinkle of an eye, because it was the driving force of every sustain颅able economy, 鈥渢hat is why you have been empowered with the neces颅sary tools to impart others and not vice-versa.鈥�
鈥淵ou are graduating into a world of uncertainties, you should think of what you can do to employ oth颅ers, how to manage your time in the use of your God given talents, that piece of paper in your hand can open doors and change your destiny so take advantage of it now,鈥� he added.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, in his opening remarks said the ceremo颅ny marks the 31st in the series of congregations as a university but the 3rd since becoming a public university in 2020.
He said the 福利姬 journey was only three years old but had played a significant role in shaping the landscape of education in Ghana, and central to that vision was the creation of a technology hub akin to the prestigious Silicon Valley in America.
鈥淲e envision a place where innovation and development thrive, and we are witnessing this vision come to life before our very eyes, our faculty is being strengthened and equipped with state-of-the-art tools, including cutting-edge labora颅tories, research centers, and libraries, despite limitation of land space,鈥� he added.
Prof. Afoakwa said the university currently had a total enrollment of 6,529 students and also fostering partnerships with world-class uni颅versities such as Coventry Univer颅sity in the UK, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany, CASS Europe and Ramaiah Univer颅sity in India, among others.
He urged the graduands to embrace every opportunity available to them and also demonstrate resil颅ience and dedication in the pursuit of knowledge throughout their academic journey.
