The Centre for Strategic Business and Professional Development (CSBPD), 腦瞳憫, has organised a three-day training programme on Conducting Audits and Criminal Investigations into Financial and Tax Crimes from Monday, August 24 to Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Forensic Lab.

The training brought together professionals from different organisations to equip them with practical skills for detecting, investigating and preventing financial and tax-related offences.

A Fellow Certified Global Business Analyst, Fellow Chartered Tax Law and Forensic Accountant and an Internal Auditor/ Head, Financial and Risk Audit Unit at 腦瞳憫, Rev. Gilbert Akanguyue Awaasi, who facilitated the training, underscored the pervasive nature of fraud, noting that fraudulent activities could affect individuals and organisations regardless of their background, position or status.

���Fraud doesn’t respect your tribe. Fraud doesn’t respect your organization size. It doesn’t respect your title or age. If you permit it, it will gladly come to you,��� he stated. He challenged participants to move beyond simply acquiring knowledge and to use the skills gained to make a tangible impact in their respective organisations.

Rev. Awaasi said tax and financial crimes involve illegal acts committed for financial gain through deception or violations of regulations. He noted that fraud costs individuals, businesses and economies millions of dollars annually, with public-sector fraud posing a particularly serious threat.

He stressed the need for strong corporate governance to promote transparency, accountability and compliance, helping prevent and detect fraud.

Rev. Awaasi further expressed the hope that participants would develop into highly competent fraud examiners and investigators who would contribute to strengthening accountability and protecting organisations from financial and tax-related crimes.

The programme focused on key areas of financial crime investigation and was structured around three thematic areas:

Day One examined the anatomy of conducting audits and criminal investigations into financial and tax crimes, providing participants with an understanding of the processes and approaches involved in financial crime investigations.

Day Two focused on fraud investigation strategies, evidence-gathering techniques and fraud reporting, equipping participants with practical approaches to identifying, documenting and reporting fraudulent activities.

The final day explored fraud prevention strategies, fraud detection techniques and fraud reporting writing, with emphasis on measures organisations can adopt to strengthen their internal controls and identify fraudulent activities at an early stage.

Delivering the closing remarks on behalf of the Directorate at the end of day three, a Junior Assistant Registrar at��CSBPD, Ms. Veronica Agbugblah, encouraged participants to apply the knowledge and strategies acquired during the training in their respective organisations. She stressed the importance of translating the skills gained into practical actions that would contribute to combating financial crimes.

She urged participants to become effective fraud examiners and investigators capable of creating value within their organisations and the public sector.

A delegation from the FATE Foundation has paid a courtesy call on the Management of the 腦瞳憫, on Monday, August 24, 2026, as a prelude to the Africa AI Upskilling programme which is being hosted by the University.

The delegation, led by the Head of Digital Innovation at FATE Foundation and Project Manager of the Africa AI Upskilling Programme, Ms. Oluchi Johnson-Achibiri, met with University Management to formally brief them on the programme and strengthen the partnership between the University and the Foundation.

The programme, which is supported by Google through the FATE Foundation in Nigeria, will train students on Google DeepMind AI courses. The participating universities are 腦瞳憫, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and University of Ghana, Legon.

In his welcome speech, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Malcalm expressed the University���s honour in hosting the participants and assured the collaborating organizers that management is committed to supporting the programme’s success. He added that the University���s involvement aligns with its vision of ensuring that students understand the ethical use of AI and expressed excitement at being among the four universities benefiting from the programme.

“I read the background information about the project; I see it as in line with our strategic objectives and also the goal of our university in the area of emerging technologies. AI upskilling is a significant issue for us because our university was established primarily for information and communication technology,” Prof. Malcalm said.

Ms. Oluchi Johnson-Achibiri noted that four African countries, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa are beneficiaries of the programme which aims to bring stakeholders together to strengthen university capacity and prepare educators for an AI-driven future.

She stated that the programme, which is a collaboration between the Foundation and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), would equip educators and higher education institutions with advanced AI skills.

“Essentially, what we wanted to achieve with this project was to build a sustainable, scalable ecosystem for AI education across Africa. But we cannot reach everywhere at once. So, the plan was to start with four countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. And today, we are in Ghana. We are reaching four schools,” she explained.

The Head of Department, Computer Engineering at 腦瞳憫, Dr. Samuel Danso, mentioned that AI upskilling forms part of the Department���s curriculum, covering topics like computer engineering, machine learning, deep learning, object detection and coding. He added that at the Master’s level, students are taught machine learning and AI.

Prof. Isaac Wiafe from Department of Computer Science, University of Ghana, expressed the pleasure of his university to participate in the training and encouraged stronger collaboration in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among universities. He stated that this would help students develop real-world problem-solving, coding and critical-thinking skills for modern careers.

The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has urged universities to equip educators with the knowledge and skills to guide students in using AI tools effectively and ethically.

He made the call when he launched the Africa Upskilling Artificial Intelligence (AI) Programme on Monday, 24 August 2026, at the 腦瞳憫 main campus in Accra.

The programme, which is sponsored by Google through the FATE Foundation, in collaboration with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), is expected to train more than 40 students and educators across four universities in Ghana. Similar training sessions are also being held in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, which was attended by stakeholders, particularly representatives from the education sector, Hon. Sukparu commended the participating universities for joining the initiative and stressed the importance of developing responsible AI skills across different sectors of society.

He said the programme aligns with the government���s efforts to strengthen Ghana���s digital and technological capabilities, noting that AI is a critical component of the country���s digital transformation and national development agenda.

He revealed that the government has launched the National AI Strategy, which is built around eight key pillars to guide Ghana���s ambition of becoming an AI hub. He added that government was also working with international partners to develop a national AI delivery framework to guide and oversee the implementation of the strategy.

Hon. Sukparu said the government���s focus was on building the ecosystems required for the responsible adoption of AI, including skills development, data governance, state-of-the-art infrastructure, innovation and appropriate policy frameworks.

He cited initiatives such as the 1 Million Coders Programme, which seeks to equip Ghanaians with future-ready digital skills and said the government was also working with development partners, including UNESCO and UNDP, to strengthen AI capacity among young people and public-sector workers.

���Whereas Ghana has already started exposing public servants to the opportunities and practical applications of AI, these efforts underscore the importance of extending AI skills beyond specialist technology communities and making them relevant to professionals across various sectors,��� he said.

He urged universities to ensure that responsible AI use becomes an integral part of education, particularly as students and educators increasingly adopt AI tools for teaching, learning, assignments and research.

���I encourage the universities to equip educators so they can guide students in using these tools effectively and ethically for their assignments and research,��� he stated.

Hon. Sukparu further said students in agriculture, health, engineering, finance, education and the creative industries should be equipped to identify and apply AI solutions relevant to their respective fields.

He therefore called for stronger collaboration between academic institutions and industry to ensure that AI education responds to real-world needs and contributes meaningfully to national development.

The Deputy Minister commended the FATE Foundation, Google, AIMS and other partners for supporting the initiative, describing the decision to focus on training educators and others who would in turn train additional users as commendable.

腦瞳憫, in collaboration with Google and FATE Foundation, has launched a five-day Africa AI Upskilling training programme for students and educators from four Ghanaian universities to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) capacity in higher education on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 腦瞳憫���s main campus.

The training brings together more than 40 students and educators from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), the University of Ghana, Legon, and 腦瞳憫. The training is being held at the 腦瞳憫 CITSET Lab.

The programme is part of a wider initiative being implemented across four African countries ��� Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa ��� and seeks to build AI capacity within higher education institutions while promoting discussions on the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the launch, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of 腦瞳憫, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, described the programme as an important milestone for the University and the wider higher education landscape in Ghana and Africa.

He said emerging technologies, particularly AI, were transforming industries, reshaping economies and redefining the future of work, adding that Africa must move beyond consuming technologies developed elsewhere to actively developing, adapting and deploying them to address local challenges.

Prof. Malcalm said the Africa AI Upscaling programme was significant because it went beyond training individuals to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions, improve teaching and learning, promote research and foster international collaboration.

He expressed confidence that the initiative would help prepare graduates for future employment while enabling universities to remain relevant and responsive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The Head of Digital Innovation at the FATE Foundation and Project Manager of the Africa AI Upscaling programme, Madam Oluchi Johnson-Achibiri, said AI presented significant opportunities to improve productivity, create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, and develop solutions tailored to the needs of African universities.

She said the programme would adopt a train-the-trainer model designed to build institutional capacity and ensure that the benefits of the training extended beyond individual participants.

She said the foundation had received a strong response to its call for applications, describing the quality of applications as encouraging.
